Programmers who prefer Notepad++ to create and edit code can turn to NppConsole, a simple-to-use plugin that can display Command Prompt embedded in the text editor.
This way, you can seamlessly work on projects and get quick access to the CLI to perform various file operations.
Easy to implement into the text editor
NppConsole can be easily integrated into the text editor. To do this, extract the DLL file from the downloaded archive and copy it to the “plugins” folder of Notepad++ directory. It doesn't matter if you have the installer or portable version of the text editor.
If Notepad++ was running before doing this, make sure to restart it to apply modifications. NppConsole can be then accessed from the “Plugins” menu to display the command-line interface. It will be embedded in the bottom part of the main window.
CLI attached to the main window
By default, the console is opened in the Notepad++ location but you can navigate to other drives or directories. This way, it's significantly easier to toggle text and console mode without having to trigger Alt+Tab or use the mouse cursor to switch between the word processor and the console window.
Use Command Prompt to explore files
Besides viewing product information in the “About” page, you can change the default path to Command Prompt as well as enter additional commands to execute when deploying the console utility.
Moreover, it's possible to enter a specific line number pattern after the file name as well as to ask the plugin to ignore Ctrl+C handling or to restart the console when this event takes places.

If you’re a developer who uses Apple’s macOS operating system, you may be interested in a tool called “Strace.” Strace is a command line tool to examine a process. The best feature of this tool is its extensive logging, which allows you to easily search for information and diagnose problems.
Using Strace
Strace is an executable, which you can find in the /usr/bin/ directory on your Mac OS. To use it, you must create a file named strace.txt with the following text (keep in mind, you’ll need to replace ” with your process id):
#!/bin/sh
strace -p -o strace.txt 2>&1
Once you’ve created the strace.txt file, you can run this command:
$./strace.sh
Note that this is going to take a while to run. You can interrupt it by pressing ctrl-c.
Running Strace
After strace has finished running, you’ll see a text file named strace.txt, which contains a huge amount of information about your processes. To read this text file, you need to use the “less” program. You can run less with this command:
$ less strace.txt
This will open the strace.txt file in the default program.
If you’d like to open this text file in a web browser, you can use the following command:
$ less strace.txt | less -S
Note, that the -S flag will open this file in the default browser for that platform.
If you’d like to search the log file, you can use the “vim” program, which is part of the “GNU” package on macOS. With vim you can search the file by using the command:
$ vim /Users//Library/Strace/strace.txt
If you use this, make sure you search for your process id.

NppConsole is a plugin for Notepad++ that provides a Command Prompt within the Notepad++ window.
NppConsole is an implementation of the original /A switch of cmd.exe that provides a Command Prompt in Notepad++ without the need to use a terminal emulator such as Cmder or Windows Terminal.
