Summer Nightmare is an arcade-style dream sequence-survival adventure.
In this surreal experience, you wake up to find yourself in a massive giant world, with a life vest that barely protects you from suffocating. You must seek out a solution to your situation before it’s too late.
Story
In the place of the summer daylight, a mysterious void has overtaken the land. It is a place of endless darkness and of nothingness…the nightmare. Your dreams are too real, the boundaries between dreams and reality are fading. The majority of the people have boarded up their windows and are dead asleep.
Your main goal is to find out why you are here and how to return home.
Gameplay
The player controls a silent protagonist as he explores a highly detailed dream world, solving puzzles and exploring dream locations. The world is presented in an isometric style, and objects in the game are designed to look as if they are coming from far away.
The player can solve some puzzles by using objects within the dream. However, the player will have to also remember what he or she already found in this dream-like world. It is up to the player whether to solve the puzzles using a search-based approach, or by solving the puzzles by exploring the objects’ features.
The game has no dialogue, is a fully player controlled experience, and is more like a film or a game design project. You awake in the mansion, holding your mobile phone. The last number you dialled was ‘013517 52828’. You tap the screen, but when you answer the phone, you can’t hear anything.
You stand and walk out of your room. You see that your roommate, Jayden, is lying on his bed. He’s dead. You walk over to his body, stand on his chest, and touch his mobile phone. When you answer it, you see a number you’ve never seen before.
Chapter 2:
You go to Jayden’s room and open his closet. You see his clothes are strewn everywhere. You pull a sweater from his body. You notice something peculiar. The sweater is his right arm, but his left arm is missing. You hold it up to his chest, but the sweater is his left arm.
You close his closet door. You walk over to his bed and look under it. You find a hand, which belongs to Jayden’s corpse. You place the hand over his right arm, and his left hand comes off his body. You also notice his right foot is missing.
