Group NSManagedObject by value before save
I need to group some Core Data items in a view controller and save it in background once. So far I figured out the following approach:
let context = appDelegate.persistentContainer.viewContext
context.mergePolicy =.refreshMerge // Note: Merge by reference!
context.refresh(for: objects)
To group these objects I have to loop over the objects and set the right groups. I’m trying to group them before save and re-use the grouped objects in the next requests.
Here is what I tried so far:

let managedContext = NSManagedObjectContext.mergeChanges(fromParentContext,parentContext)
for object in objects
{
//….Manipulate the object
managedContext.save()

If I’m doing it like this the context.refresh(for: objects) resets the merged changes so I’m getting an error like:
Unable to merge changes. The merge policy of the destination context has been marked as optional.
Also tried to copy the context and do the merge there, but it did not work out and I did not find any information about this problem on the web.
I’m very new to Core Data and want to get it right by now, any help appreciated.

No, that is not correct. You merely need to identify the groups of the objects as they are loaded by setting the relationship from your objects to the groups. You don’t have to find them all again.
Before saving, you can merge the changes to the context in a context that is already up-to-date and also has the objects available at that time.
