hd’s feature set is almost the same as the playstation 3 version, differing only in resolution and frame rate. since the game is a disc, there are no online capabilities in the form of leaderboards and access to events, and there is no unlockable content to access the online mode.

however, the game does contain both the “hd” and “ps3” versions of the game, allowing players to play as either carl johnson or toni cipro on either console or for both consoles. these versions are installed separately but, due to the fact that the psn works differently on the ps3, certain features only appear on the ps3 versions of the game, such as the appearance of troyzan as a playable character and the “hd” feature.

in the pc version, players may play as either carl johnson or toni cipro. while the differences between the two are minimal, the playstation 3 version features additional content such as unlocked missions and outfits.

like the playstation 3 versions of gta san andreas and gta liberty city stories, the pc version also features higher-resolution graphics; and has better-looking and detailed interiors than the playstation 3 version. the pc version is exclusive to steam, and features cross-platform multiplayer, in-game voice chat, and an updated environment.

on foot movement is similar to previous games in the series with the exception of cars being more easily put into reverse – done by simply pulling back with the left analog stick. once a person is selected, they walk around freely with the ability to jump on hover or simply double jump on standing or crouching (they must be in the air and press the jump button to change stances). in the event a person dies, they can be restored via a save screen featuring “last resort mode” which heals the player as quickly as possible. entering cars is done by pressing the on-screen button (usually on the right), and exiting them is done by pressing the on-screen button and leaning forward. once inside, the hud is visible on the dashboard with toni watching the front of the vehicle with the left analog stick. the controls of the mobile version are also intuitive – once a vehicle is chosen, the player must press the right analog stick to cycle through weapons (taking the vehicle into that weapons’ inventory). there are two microphones included in the mobile version to enable players to use the game boy player and fm radio in combination with an included adapter.

the xbox version is presented in a 3d engine, unlike the other versions. this engine allows players to interact with the environments and objects in a more believable manner than the previous versions. the xbox version supports full motion video. other differences include xbox live, the ability to chat online with other players. there are also several gameplay improvements. the nintendo wii edition was announced at the playstation 2, xbox 360 and pc conferences in september 2006. it was released on march 15, 2008 in europe and march 17, 2008 in north america. the wii edition used a different art style from the other versions. the nintendo wii edition was later delisted by the nintendo website. the wii version does not support the ability to use different accessories such as a virtual inventory or map; some versions include a map and some don’t. gta liberty city stories is a recreation of what would have been the original version of the game, had the game been released for the playstation 2 in 2003. that doesn’t mean that the game was prevented from being made; instead, the game went under the radar until now, when these early pre-production builds have been unearthed. if the game were made today (and the build was a pure pc port), it would probably have been a first-person shooter set in liberty city, with large amounts of free-aiming. the final version of the game would of course have used the playstation 2’s third-person aiming camera angle, and would of course have been set in san andreas. thankfully, the people at rockstar decided that they wanted the game to be more of a direct continuation of the grand theft auto iii series than any other recent gta game, so the game went in a more traditional third-person approach. the playstation 2 build still has the game in san andreas, but it can now be played in third-person (or first-person, if you’re playing on a pc). 5ec8ef588b
