Raees, along with his wife Reema, Zakir, and local-level gangster Raju (whose face is masked), land in a hideout to flee after the police raids Fatehpur, only to learn that Mahender is already dead and that his daughter, Binte, is in prison. He catches a ghati (grave robber), which goes on to become a toy for him. Meanwhile, his parents are shown to have been alcoholics. They died due to accidental drowning.
On his birthday, he gets a khadi-clad Jainadi (a murti of Jesus) as a gift and is taken to a temple. The story shifts to 1980 where he is shown to be a police officer, with his wife. His brother Tariq is also shown. Between 1980-1989, Raees provides protection to a widow, Manju; this figure is later revealed to be and important character in the story.
1993, the year of Doordarshan, Raees is shown to be the IAS officer, who has transferred from Gujarat to Punjab for his new assignment. The assassination attempt is shown to have not occurred and the owner of the house was killed in a robbery. Raees goes on to say that no job is permanent and no religion is greater than any occupation.
