the casting of mohabbatein was quite a task. sridevi had been offered a role opposite amitabh bachchan in the film, but she refused to do it. after that, her character was written off the script. another character which would have made an appearance in the film was mithun chakraborty, as shefali shahs army husband. the length of the film and the insignificance of the character led to its removal.
