this is one of those movies that a lot of people say, “hey, i really like this.” and then, “hey, this is really really good.” well, it is very good and has a lot going for it. it has samuel l. jackson doing what he does best, playing a very emotionally empty, but very accomplished and famous man. he takes a character that most would consider a villain and makes him into a very sympathetic character. christian bale is excellent in this role and plays it just like we expect a very rich, successful businessman to be. the script is very good, the editing is excellent, and the direction is outstanding. the movie is a little on the long side but that’s just because it’s about a rich man and he spends a lot of time with his loving family. as far as the other characters, they are mostly what we’d expect them to be. there is a little less physical violence than there was in the first film but not as much as the second one. overall, this movie is great. this is the best shaft film so far.
not an easy task to describe. it’s a shaft film, but you could put it in the same sentence as a jackie brown film. it has a lot of those jackie brown type elements that i love. i don’t want to say much more, because i don’t want to spoil it for you. it’s all about sitting back and enjoying what happens. it has a lot of action scenes and i haven’t seen any of those that go beyond standard shaft levels. the story seems very dark and i think it does have a lot of very serious undertones. it’s good to see a shaft film with a more serious tone. as far as the characters go, we know who the main one is but there are some great secondary characters as well. this one has a great script and a good cast. if you liked jackie brown, you’ll like this one too.
