I am planning to sell my old epson lq printer (model XP-640). Unfortunately I spent about $$$$ of ink over the last few years. I have also loaded a different firmware (20.22.NK11JA) and I used a cd-rom that I found on the net to do that.

unfortunately there are some international models of epson printers that never had their firmware readily available online or at least not archived anywhere. this includes many with sub-model numbers including 435, 352, 442, 422, 325, 245, 345, etc.. not even the paid solutions generally offer the firmware for these models. basically if you search for your printer on google and see the top site is epson.co.uk or epson.de or epson.com.au instead of the basic epson.com then you have an international model. in these cases without readily available firmware, you can still try the scratch off method i describe at the bottom of my tutorial to fix third party ink. if that fails then it may be more cost-effective just to purchase a different printer that supports firmware downgrades and third party ink.

i have a epson print center xp-430 as well, this is used in the usa. i had just received a firmware upgrade from the epson website. however, epson does not provide the upgrade directly to the web site, instead it provides a download link only. you need to open the file with notepad and copy the link into notepad, then open the link, and paste into the notepad window.

by the way, i recently bought an epson print center xp-440, but i’ve tried downloading the printer drivers. but it can’t recognize the printer drivers that i downloaded from epson.printing. when i try to print a document, i could only get the black and white print option.
