INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A 64-year-old Fort Wayne man has sparked debate with his Facebook comments about it being OK to slap your girlfriend if she hits you.
His comments, which attracted hundreds of comments and some 86,000 views have become the top story on some Indianapolis news sites.
It was posted Friday afternoon.
“Are you saying that this woman hit you and would hit you again…with that women has less self respect than a man, so it’s ok to catch her around the head to protect her,” WXIN reported on their Facebook page as they collected the views.
The main issue is the man told Indianapolis tv station Fox59 that a woman slapped a girlfriend of his and he wanted to return the favor, but wondered if that would be OK.
“You can’t be 100 percent sure, but that’s how I would be. I think you’re not going to,” the man said.
“I don’t think you should hit your woman for various reasons,” the man told Fox59.
WXIN’s controversy poster gathered hundreds of comments making this Facebook profile controversial.
“This is a silly comment on the part of the commentator, thinking that one should hit his girlfriend’s head with his hand. This is not the way of hitting,” commented other commenters.
“So she slapped you because you smacked her on the butt and she deserved it? Pretty hilarious story about a comment that really doesn’t make sense,” commented another Facebook poster.
“[This is] the first time I’ve seen such poor grammar on this site! You need to research your English! I’m not saying that a woman shouldn’t be slapped for hitting someone, I’m not saying that someone shouldn’t hit you…but do you or don’t you deserve it?!,” wrote another Facebook poster.
WXIN’s controversy poster points out comments by the man himself in posts several years ago by the same name which suggested it was OK to slap your girlfriend.

Her parents go out on a camping trip with friends to explore the mountains, leaving Alex and Nic at the house together. When they finally head out, they are ready for an exciting time.
Alex and Nic climb and ascend together for over a day. They explore parts of the mountain and explore the land around them. The two talk a lot about their relationship and how their trip is important to them.
