matlab parallel backpropagation speed up

I am new to parallel computing and Matlab, I am trying to figure out how to use the multicore and use the parallel backpropagation algorithm. I am trying to figure out how to load the data from a file, use the matrix multiplication from a matrix in order to change the synaptic weights and send the outputs of the network as inputs to the next neuron.
I have managed to load the file, read each row into a matrix which i then multiply by the weight matrix and save it back in a new matrix, this means the multiplying goes with each thread running.
But the problem is I am using the matrix multiplication function in matlab and it is not working with parallel computing. I would like to find out if I am doing something wrong, or if I am simply asking a stupid question. This would help me be a better matlab programmer.
I have read an answer on another forum for this but it was only provided for a neural network with a matrix multiplication function. If you could help me out it would be great!
