Although increasing the disk rotational speed can eliminate the problem, this tends to decrease the average or steady state velocity so that the head can lose lift over the disk surface. The life of the slider can be shorter, and if the slider were to separate from the surface of the disk, the slider can crash with the surface of the disk. Consequently, a long term goal has been an ABS that eliminates the slider/disk interface problem.
