first off i cleared the work area to be sure i was starting with a clean print. i also want to mention that i have a harbor freight extec dual print head in my garage. i always prefer purchasing used printer heads as they are cheaper. i started in the corner of the print bed with the bit already halfway out of the carve. you can see that i am too far in, or my feed rate is to fast. if you look closely i have a little bit of a core in the bottom of my logo. i am sure that is the fault of the bottoms of the vs. i did not notice that when i wrote the first post. i am still learning and will be improving later on. i have always thought sainsmart had an awesome kit, so from the get-go i was happy with this. i did not tear anything out on my first go. i was inspired to do the sainsmart logo because i have a very neat sainsmart logo, and this design is so easy! i etched the design on a little piece of acrylic. i like the design very much, but the logo looks great when etched. i had a hard time positioning the bit. it kept trying to go up as well as down, but my first pass was very good. i did a better second pass and had no issues as of yet. but i have a small hole in the bottom of my first logo, so i will probably do a better third pass or so and just clean up the bottom of the logo a little.

i have been doing a number of projects on this machine. most of these projects have been limited to just a single design printed in a limited number of layers. the first one was the sainsmart logo. i printed a 500×500 circle, but i want to improve on that. i am still in the learning process and am not sure if i will be able to make a large design like the sainsmart logo, but i am sure it will be good enough for the next project i try. it is printed out in about 20 layers, and i am printing at 25mm/min.

the software also has a nice little timeline for the g-code as you build it, that can be used to build the g-code for the spindle. it’s pretty cool to watch the g-code being generated, as you select commands, and watch the spindle move in the cnc.
this control panel is a good starter to get a basic idea about how the cnc works and how it moves the spindle. for people with more advanced needs, the software may be a little intimidating to navigate, but the controls are well laid out, so its not a big deal. with that being said, the controls are so easy to use, that you can easily program your own g-code with them, and as i mentioned before, the g-code editing functions are helpful for editing g-code files you may have made in your own programs.
the software also has a “debug” panel that is helpful when you are using it. the panel allows for both simulation and real time testing of g-code files. for simulation you can enter g-code into the panel, and see what it does. this is helpful when you are testing the g-code that you made in your own programs. for example if you programmed a g-code file to move the spindle in certain increments, and it is doing something unexpected, you can enter a g-code file, and see what happens in the simulation mode.
you can also set soft limits as you wish, but there is a catch, if you use the software limits, as described above. you need to set the soft limits before the software limits and you can’t have more than one soft limit active at a time. so, if you set the y axis soft limit to 75mm, and the y axis soft limit to 100mm, the y axis travel can’t go over 100mm. if you want to set the y axis soft limit to 200mm and have the x axis soft limit set to 200mm, then the y axis will travel 200mm, but the x axis will travel from 0mm to 200mm, as 200mm is the limit for the x axis.
