Critically Acclaimed Memphis rapper Moneybagg Yo, born Keiion Corleone, jumped into the scene in 2013 when he released his acclaimed mixtape An Honest Thug. Since then, he has steadily increased his profile with a series of releases including 2015s King Of Memphis and 2016s Republic Of Memphis, the latter of which earned him a spot on XXL Magazines Freshman Class. Last year, he released Federal 3x and nearly derailed his promotion when he revealed that he was the subject of an indictment in the Southern District of New York on drug and gun charges. The rapper has since been in jail while the case moves slowly through the courts.
Moneybagg doesn’t appear to be swayed by a case of his own, remaining steadfastly committed to his own business interests. He has an as-yet untitled project in the pipeline for the Republic label, but he remains cagey about the details.

for a project called 2 heartless, it seems like a heartless thing to call this a sequel. but its not. just the first verse, which opens the project, is a return to moneybagg yos roots, the one thing that has always made this rapper unique. other than a brief appearance on 2 federal and quavos broccoli, theres only one other guest who appears on the project: yo gotti. theres no chorus, no hook, no chorus, no hook. its a laser-focused one-man performance with a simple purpose: moneybagg yos street edge is unmatched. its the rare kind of rap album that, no matter how many times you listen to it, youll still find something new.
its always nice when rappers aim high. sticking a headshot on your album cover in an attempt to strike a blow at the hyperbole of the mainstream rap world is a noble effort. its the kind of thing that will usually result in a few laughs and a few howls of protest, a few defensive excuses like, well, hes not trying to be mainstream, hes just trying to be good. but in the case of 2 heartless, moneybagg yos vision actually seems to come into focus. its an album that sees him stretching, not only his own lyrical boundaries, but also his abilities as a rapper. his run-on raps on candy, dope, and stardom are somehow coherent and even interesting. its only a matter of time before the mainstream will see him as one of the more interesting talents in the game. with 2 heartless, he has his best shot yet at that goal.
themes of freedom and transformation run through 2 heartless. the album is littered with references to financial independence and a newfound sense of self. the vibrant production and diverse guest spots on 2 heartless lend the album a far more holistic feel than is typical for a moneybagg release. 2 heartless is his most mature project, drawing inspiration from his own tumultuous childhood. though the album is less kinetic than his solo mixtapes, he still maintains a level of eccentricity, never seeming to tip his hand with any of the projects more mundane moments. moneybaggs next project, 43va heartless, which drops on the eve of father yeezys 40th birthday, is poised to be his most complex yet.
