i think weve seen enough. its time we had a story that explored the narnia of the lion, the witch and the wardrobe from an entirely fresh perspective. all weve ever had of the silver chair was a slotted retelling. it doesnt matter that if youre a fan of the books, you probably know exactly what happens.
no, if youre a fan of the books, youre probably still in the dark. the silver chair was written as the books were, to be a book within a book. if youve read the silver chair, youll know that eustace scrubb and jill pole have to find the missing pevensie siblings. youll know that this isnt any old journey, and that theres a great deal more to the story of the pevensie siblings than meets the eye.
narnia is back, albeit with one of my least favorite characters. you probably already knew this wasnt gonna be good because the first two movies were over two hours long. but its hard to complain too much. im not even too fussed that the witch isnt in the movie. it wouldnt have worked.
what does bother me is that peter, susan, edmund, and lucy have no reaction when they find the knight in the silver chair. were they supposed to be shocked? theres some sort of implication that theyre used to seeing this guy around, but theyre not given any indication that theyre surprised to see him. i think this could have been incorporated more, and that would have been a good way to make the movie accessible.
as far as the second half of the movie goes, its pretty much meh. the four children are on their way to narnia, and their journey is made a little better by the fact that they have to sneak their way in, unlike the first two. i think that would be a great direction for the series to take – the children are being kept from a world that doesnt understand them, and then they have to sneak into it.
in the lion, the witch and the wardrobe, peter has to decide what to do about the war going on with the telmarine empire. its much more important than saving eustace from the witch for sure, because they need to get the children into narnia again as soon as possible. its even possible that they come back alone (since invisibility is so much easier, as characters like polly make clear). they could even be leaving eustace and jill in narnia, and just going back to the mainland. and the books follow a very allegorical way of thinking (which we all know is another nice way of saying, its a lot more than just a childrens story. its about living in narnia) so it was only fitting that the lion should return as a symbol. the lion is the most powerful creature in the history of narnia, so its not as if he suddenly changes into an alienlike monster. he returns as himself. anyway, i really liked the books, and i always liked eustace in the books. he was always the most miserable child (always trying to find adventure) who just got a lot of adventure. i think that makes him very relatable. (and of course, i really liked jill, too.) the added episodes included: jill and susan are snow whites in the white witch the servants of the white witch are four horses, a lion, an eagle, a bull and a swan are the guards of the silver chair taking the silver chair to the orphan in the forest of the silver chair the armies of the white witch and the lion are on the march in the forest of the silver chair prince rilian plans to stop them at the south gate the first battle of the war the march of the white witch the second battle of the war the white witch is captured the fourth battle of the war the white witch flees the white witch is captured the white witch is killed the white witch is beheaded the white witch is sent to the underworld the last battle of the war the white witch destroys the stone table (in the underworld) the white witch is defeated the white witch is defeated the white witch dies in the underworld the white witch dies in the underworld 5ec8ef588b
