One Way Heroics is a very different kind of experience fromMystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics, and instead focusses more on exploration. You may have played games where you could explore each environment in a turn-based game, and in this one that may be the case, but more often than not your impact on that environment will be decided by the time youre in it. Chances are youll find a chest to open or somethin, but you may want to run through that room to open the door, and by the time youre back at the door and ready to go through its locked. As with all roguelikes, your success depends on time spent in the game, but this time youre not just spoilt for a reason; youre going at your own pace and thats the great difference here. Soon youre going to be trapped in a mine and will need to work your way out. You dont need to. There are clues here and there in the stages and even in the deeper levels, but the whole concept of what is a true essential to the experience is different here. Once you start getting stuck in time it becomes very difficult to build back up that momentum. Youre like a speed runner in a town, and youre not allowed into the parking lot.
One Way Heroics is a 2D, roguelike hack and slash that takes place in various fantasy themed worlds. You get to explore dungeons and overgrown places, hack-n-slash your way through hordes of monsters and search for treasure and power-ups. Its easy to pick up and play, and youre often rewarded well for taking a break from the basic combat.
The games story is told through journal entries, and is ultimately a tale of adventure, betrayal and sacrifice to get the adventurer to the point where they fight the game of the antagonist, the dark lord. Its a fairly touching story that you can read in-game without being pushed to it as I did on the Nintendo Switch version of One Way Heroics .
