the term social justice is associated with dr. ambedkar, who is known for leading the social reform and political movements in the country. in his view, the concept of social justice was closely related to distributive justice as opposed to the concept of individual justice. thus, social justice is the right of each and every individual to share in the distribution of wealth in the society and ensures that no one is left behind. according to dr. ambedkar, in an ideal society, the economic resources should be distributed among all members of the society so that they have a minimal standard of living. this would ensure social justice.
as the chief architect of the constitution, dr. ambedkar participated in the drafting of the constitution of india, which adopted the socialist principles and led to the formation of the government in india, which was built on principles of democracy. though he did not agree with marxists for their failure to have accepted the reality of caste system, he fully shared their views on the important issue of caste and supported them in their fight against its evil aspects.
as india attained independence, dr. ambedkar became a leader of the socialist movement in the country. however, he rejected the marxist philosophy and criticised their humanist approach to the problem of inequality and exploitation in the society. he also rejected their sectarian attitude towards hindus and opposed their uncharitable attitude towards the untouchables. the socialist workers were also reluctant to accept him as their leader. for a while, dr. ambedkar and jawaharlal nehru disagreed on the basis of their ideologies. however, they eventually forged a great friendship and worked in tandem on the issues of indian independence and socialism.
