the game consists of two parts. the first, a mythical world where the gods and monsters war against each other. the second, involves a search and rescue where the player must rescue some of gods other heroes and the gods they served to save them.

the game plays the same as the original, however, there are many changes, such as the over-world map is now three-dimensional and the fight mechanics have been changed, making the game more similar to the legend of zelda. there are many items that can be collected, most of which will give the player an ability. in the game, the player will be able to use more than one item at once, but the items will be depleted after using them. the player can powerup his attack by picking up herculade, which can be found in chests around the game. the player can also use herculade to receive more energy in between levels. in normal levels, there are more herculade chests than in rush levels, allowing the player to replenish his energy quickly.
