The Witcher Enhanced Edition brings a ton of extra content into the game, the first of which is the additional characters. The new character models are a huge improvement over the original ones and are well-detailed, though a few are ugly. While I do wish a few characters were replaced, the overall character set is a great improvement. I especially like the character selection dialog when you select a new character, where you can pick out which parts of their outfit you want to keep. If you’re looking for a more intense story you should grab these new characters.
While you should have no problem finding free, high-quality texture replacements for a lot of the games textures, there is one particular type of texture that The Witcher Enhanced Edition wasn’t prepared for. Remember that the New Character Models are larger than the old ones, and a lot of the older textures used a 4:3 aspect ratio. The result is that the designers have a ton of textures where the character is at a much smaller scale than the environment. This is a pretty common issue in most classic RPG’s. A quick fix is to grab the new character models for these characters, which are a lot smaller in scale than the old ones. The old character models do work fine, and the old textures work fine in the new character models, but the difference isn’t as big as it could be.
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition (PC, Xbox One) is an extensive update of the critically acclaimed RPG, originally released for PC and Xbox in 2012. Its sequel, Wild Hunt, was released in 2015 and it’s latest installment, Blood and Wine, in 2017.
