Years ago I used to buy computer magazines and play all the demos on the cover disks as a form of cheap entertainment. One day there was a demo of a game called Tomb Raider. I’d never heard of it, and back then I used to try them all out since it was a lot cheaper than going and buying a game and discovering it sucked. Anyway, I played that demo over, and over, and over. I’d never played such a fun game, and back then it had nothing to do with the main character cos the graphics weren’t as good as they are today, but the game play was outstanding. I’ve been a fan of the series ever since.
What always annoys me is that Tomb Raider was one of the most original, and now most copied, 3D games out there, but ofcourse, the screen saver on the official site is just another boring slideshow. YAWN.
So since the new movie sequel Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life is about to be released I decided to do a screen saver, and I think it’s come out pretty well. I made the model of Lara myself, but I have to give credit to the people who wrote some modeling tutorials which I can’t find again. They helped me out. I also have to give credit to Nehe (nehe.gamedev.net) who has the best OpenGL tutorials on the planet on his website. I used the rope physics tutorial to work out how to made her ponytail move properly.
So she walks around a maze, which is random generated which I think is kinda cool, looking at pictures on the walls that are from the movie. You kind of have to see it to appreciate it, like most of the others. I’ve never seen anything like it. I had heaps more ideas for this, but didn’t really have time to do them all. I wanted to release it before the movie came out. If I get a good response I might come back and add to it later.

Halloween is a time to let go of our inhibitions, and yes, the holiday can be an amazing time of liberation. All those cute costumes and candy and parties will make us feel more like a kid again.
For some of us, though, the candy can be a bit of a downer. There’s the sweet, and then there’s the sugar. A lot of us eat a lot of sugar, and if that’s the case, then you’re not going to have a great Halloween.
There’s a lot of people in the world that want to succeed, but it seems like there’s a lot of people who also want to fail, or at the very least, not achieve their goal.
We need to learn to balance our desire for success with a healthy fear of failure. One of the most effective ways to overcome fear of failure is to start every day by focusing on success.
As we get older, we become more aware of how we look. The older we get, the more we become aware of the things that we like about ourselves and the things that we don’t. Some things we like and some things we don’t like, but the important thing to realize is that we’re conscious of them. If we’re conscious of the things we like, then we can work to change them. This screensaver features Lara Croft as she visits the underground ruins of the sacred chamber of Ra, a pyramid fortress which guards the treasures of the first people of Egypt. You have to find out what happened here and keep the cursed powers of the empire from resurrecting again. The location is randomised every time.
Instructions:
– Just click to start.
– The user can change the size of the virtual scene by clicking on the various icons.
– You can also click on “restart” at the bottom of the screen to load a random scene.
– If you don’t want to load a random scene, just click on “Load” to save Lara’s last scene.
– You can save Lara’s last scene to a file called “lastscreensaver.3d” and when you load the last scene it will be automatically loaded.
– You can use your arrow keys to move around.
– There are icons next to Lara which will help you move her around.
– The mouse buttons control the camera position.
– There are various depth effect options which make the scenery a bit more interesting to look at.
– There is an option to have Lara look around and talk to the objects in the scenery, which adds to the immersion.
– There is an option to use the C-A-C-A-M… keys to make Lara jump.
– The Ctrl key and the number keys will make Lara fall down.
– If you press the Spacebar you can jump.
– The ESC key will exit the scene.
– The “zoom” option makes Lara move around faster.
– If you select “crouch”, Lara will crouch and walk more slowly.
– You can change the volume of Lara’s voice by pressing the F5 key.
– You can have Lara look at pictures by pressing the F5 key.
– You can use the Ctrl key to enable or disable the music.
– If you close the window without saving your last scene, Lara will start with the same scene again, every time you load the program.
– You can’t play the game if you are not using DirectX.
– When the scene is done you can click on the “Save” icon to save the scene to a file.
– If you save more than one scene, the last one is used every time.
– To change the location of Lara’s scene you can either click on the icons to change it, or

You are not really interested in Lara Croft because she is awesome, but because she is damn sexy in that clothesless kind of way. When you wake up every morning you see her and for a while you think that you are in love with her, but then you realise that she is just a plain old video game character and that you are just in love with the pretty face you see every time you go to the shower.
The game is a 3D puzzle shooter in which you are forced to solve puzzles in order to save Lara Croft from the clutches of a mad scientist. There are a few objectives and you play through a prelude that introduces Lara Croft, her history and a bit about the puzzle game. You can save your game after every level. Then you play on.
How to install:
I provide the installer with two options (it’s up to you to decide which one you want to use):
– This is the simple and straightforward way to install this screen saver. Simply extract the archive and run the setup executable. You’ll then be able to see the About screen.
– This is the same as the previous option, but you’ll have to compile the screen saver yourself. There is a readme included in the archive which explains the process. The readme also contains a few tips for your screensaver (you’ll need an OpenGL capable system to use it). The screen saver will work better if you are running a fairly new graphics card, and you’ll need a fairly new machine to run the screen saver without getting a few lags.
(If you don’t know how to do this and still want to try it, you’ll find a link in the readme explaining how to install it. There’s no harm in trying.)
HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN SCREENSAVER:
It’s fairly easy to create your own screen saver, although it’s a bit more of a hassle than installing it. I haven’t actually done it myself, but you should be able to find a lot of tutorials on how to do it on the net. A good starting point is Nehe’s website which has a great OpenGL tutorial.
First, you’ll need to understand a few OpenGL basics. If you don’t know how to do that, it’s better to read a good tutorial before you try it. Then you’ll need to download the model of Lara you’ve seen in the screenshots (the rest of the screen saver doesn’t really depend on

I love the idea of the movie screensaver, but the demo is WAYYYY to short for any actually good presentation. The music sounds like something from the cover of a bad CD, and the sound effects are pretty lame. I would give up on this right now.
