Portable DriveGLEAM

DriveGLEAM is designed to show read/write activity for you hard drives in system notification area. It is also capable of outputting to any parallel port or a serial port.
DriveGLEAM can be of many different uses, even if it’s being used to watch the read/write activity for your system hard drives.
DriveGLEAM can be useful if you work as a remote system administrator and remotely accesses computers to fix problems. If you only remotely access computers occasionally DriveGLEAM can be a utility of great practicality.
Any of the following can happen when DriveGLEAM is watching a harddrive:
1) The size of the hard drive will decrease
2) The hard drive may be moving to a different location on the same drive
3) The hard drive may be moving to a different drive
4) The hard drive can power off during normal activity
5) The hard drive can be removed
6) The hard drive can be moved from the USB port to an alternate port
7) An error can occur in read or write processes
8) The hard drive may be turning off
9) Any other activity not specifically listed above.
DriveGLEAM will warn you of any of the above with an on screen pop-up message and any of the above events will be displayed in the system tray.
After DriveGLEAM reports any such activity the user may choose to take actions such as proceeding with normal system operation, waiting for a certain period of time, waiting for a power cycle to occur, or immediatelly stopping any read or write activity on the hard drive.
DriveGLEAM can also be useful for monitoring read/write activity for external USB disks or attached printers.—

Why I need this?
I have 2 servers that run Arch Linux. They are both used for developing web applications which need a lot of read/write. When I’m alone at home I can just turn them on and see if they work OK. But it is quite annoying to have a light on your desk to see if you have a new post or a new comment. So i wanted a way to quickly notice if one of the hard disk is doing something.

Installation

General Usage

After installation you can start DriveGLEAM by double clicking the tray icon.

–Desktop–
I moved the executable drivegleam to /usr/local/bin/drivegleam for ease of use. Feel free to move it if you don’t use the gui.

–Tray icon–
I added a small image to the tray icon to identify what DriveGLEAM is.

–Settings–
In the settings dialog you can set DriveGLEAM to start automatically or the program can be run using a short cut key (winkey+r).

–Shortcuts–
To easily check for any activity on a drive you can define a shortcut to the DriveGLEAM tray icon.

Symbolic Link Paths
I moved the symbolic link to the tray icon so that the drive location is not really important. DriveGLEAM will autodetect when a drive has changed and will then use the new location. That should leave you with a nice clean tray icon.

–Setup Script–
You can use a simple bash
