jadon is a 19-year-old woman who lives in a slum, but her destiny is to be a doctor. she is raised by her alcoholic father who treats her like a chattel. he befriends jay who provides her with shelter and also watches over her. jay is a policeman who lives in a middle-class slum.
most of the issues related to the adaptation didnt affect the movie itself, which was enchanting and a mesmerising experience. i liked the themes which have been dealt with, which show the indian society from the different perspectives. even though the movie wasnt perfect, i thought it was a fine attempt. probably its only drawback was the overuse of bharatnatyam by the women dancers, which did hamper the flow.
the characters in the movie are nicely developed, nuanced and well developed. the story and the characters are well told and the cinematography and direction are really good. the only major flaw was the play of the ballad numbers. overall, chokher bali was a wonderful experience for me and i am sure everyone would enjoy it as much as i did. this was one of the best adaptations i have seen to the text novel. the acting is outstanding and the narration superb.
i think we have to be very appreciative of what we have in our local cinema today. there is great cinema being made at all levels. the subject matter in chokher bali is timely and this is one of the reasons it resonates with so many of us. i think youll be surprised at how well it was directed.
it is not too long, nor is it too long. it is never boring. its a love story with sharp and nail-biting twists, but it takes place in a modern world in contemporary times. its an adaptation that works. the direction and cinematography are compelling. its a story of how a woman can be true to herself yet allow the man she loves to lead her into an unexpected but welcome happiness, even though he is not a refined man. this is a rare and unusual story that i enjoyed.
